The annex of the Unitarian parish house is covered in shingle once again!
After decades when traditional shingle roofing has gradually disappeared from the town’s landscape, hidden beneath new tin surfaces or replaced by asbestos plates, ceramic tiles or tin, a typical shingle roof can be seen again in Roşia Montană!
The roof was installed at the Unitarian parish house, where ARA Association conducts extensive restoration works in view of conserving the values of the building and of restoring it back to community service.
The shingles are hand produced by two craftsmen from Albac, among the last ones to practice this trade in the area: Nucu and Vasile
“a Boacii”. The two craftsmen worked through the summer to hand split and finish the 5 000 fir-tree shingles, and in October they installed the roofing over the roof structure previously erected in September, involving the participants to the ARA Summer School.
Making the new roof at the annex of the Unitarian parish house was supported by donations made within the Adopt a House at Roşia Montană programme.
